History of Bhadrachalam Temple

The temple is among the seven carnations of Lord Vishnu; it was built by the famous Sree Rama Devotee Kancharla Gopanna. This dates back to the 17^th century, where Gopanna worked as Tahsildhar in the government of Abdul Hassan Qutb Shah.

He was later promoted to Bahktha Ramadasu by the servants of Lord Rama. Qutb Shah then allowed Gopanna to collect government tax (Jaziya tax). This was a penalty to Hindus for not converting. However, Gopanna uses the taxes to build Hindu devotees a temple (Bhadrachalam Temple) using 6 lakhs of the amount to complete the construction.
