Sri Gayana Saraswathi Basara Temple, also known as Sri Gnana Saraswathi Devi temple, is situated on the bank of river Godavari at Basara in Nizamabad. History of Basara Saraswathi Temple

According to the legends, it is believed that after the ferocious Kurukshetra War, Sage Vedavyasya visited the Dandaka forest on the coast of the Godavari River withShakuni, his only son, searching for a peaceful place to live. The Sage Vedavyasya got a place that was pleasing with the beauty things and decided to live there.

Later, He slept and dreamt of building a temple for three Goddess Jaganmata. After that, he took three hands full of dunes and made three goddess deities with the sand. The three deities were coated with turmeric and worshipped. The place changed from Vasara of Vyasya Sage and was named Basara after some Maharashtra people’s influence. It is believed that whoever eats the pieces of turmeric coated with gods will increase intelligence and knowledge.

Basara Temple Aksharabhyasam Timings

The Aksharabhyasam occurs often at the Temple. After reaching the Temple, devotees can buy tickets for any event of the same day. It is performed from 7:30 am to 12:30 in the morning and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm time. The visitors are charged Rs. 100, but you must pay Rs. 1000 for Akshara Sreekaram.

The charges are performed differences where Rs. 100 ticket is done in the hall while the Rs. 1000 charge is performed in front of Sri Gnana Saraswathi AMMA.
